Churchill College
Churchill College, Cambridge, has appointed three architectural practices to draw up proposals for a revised urban realm scheme. In 2022, I worked with one of those practices -
Assemble - to develop ideas for an art commissioning programme to be embedded within their competition entry.
Proposals included a residency programme for artists to be invited to research archival material, reposition the collection, challenge accepted narratives, and establish links with students and staff; an ambitious public programme for staff, students and Cambridge residents to productively and critically address the legacy of Winston Churchill and the history of the College; and a commissioning programme that builds on the legacy of previous commissioned work by artists including Barbara Hepworth, Nigel Hall, John Piper and Dhruva Mistry.
