Profile
I am an independent curator who writes and teaches. I live in Essex and work across the UK, mainly in London, but also other parts of the world.
I’m interested in the ways that artworks are viewed, positioned and transformed by a live relationship with audiences, contexts and conditions. I love forging long-term conversations with artists and curators to make exhibitions, public art commissions, publications and public programmes. I’ve been doing this for thirty years and still find it exciting.

In 2021 I launched the Archive of Destruction, an on-going, international research project and online resource about public artworks that have been destroyed by rage, boredom, fear, greed and love.
I have worked at a strategic level advising on commissioning programmes and city-wide cultural activities with the GLA, Queen Elizabeth Park, Fourth Plinth programme, Tate, Arts Council England and Oxford Street. I’m currently Chair of the Board of Trustees at Matt’s Gallery in London, and a member of AICA (International Association of Art Critics).
I am regularly invited to do crits and give lectures at art schools and artist-run spaces, most recently at the Slade, RCA, TOMA, Goldsmiths College, RA Schools, Valand Academy, and NYU Abu Dhabi. In 2025 - 26 I was Acting Course leader of the MA Culture, Criticism and Curation course at Central St Martins (maternity cover) and since 2021 I have been an Associate Lecturer on the BA Culture, Criticism and Curation course, also at CSM. I have been a Visiting Curator, doing crits with artists-in-residence, at Delfina Foundation since 2018.
I mentor artists who are looking for ways to reposition or rethink their practice. Some artists have asked me recently to talk to them about their work before opening an exhibition. I love doing this!
I have taken part in numerous national and international talks, conferences, events, and seminars on subjects relating to contemporary sculpture, commissioning programmes, archives, and destruction.
Organisations I have worked with as a curator or writer include Flat Time House, Serpentine Gallery, Liverpool Biennial, Lismore Castle, Tate, Seventeen Gallery, MK Gallery, Matt’s Gallery, Museum of London, Skissernas Museum, Malmö Konsthall, Lund Cathedral, St Paul’s Cathedral, The Women’s Art Collection (Murray Edwards College), Emscherkunstweg art commissioning programme and ActionSpace.
Artists I’ve worked with include Alice Channer, Harrold Offeh, Marjolijn Dijkman, Nathan Coley, Rhys Coren, Ro Robertson, Nnena Kalu, Yinka Shonibare, Saelia Aparicio, Jesse Darling, Gary Hume, Vanessa da Silva and Alison Wilding. Writers include Joanna Walsh, Vanessa Onwuemezi, Frances Morgan and Francis Whorall-Campbell.
Here's a catalogue text I wrote for an exhibition I curated at MK Gallery on contemporary sculpture in 2023 and film about a project I curated in in Sweden over an eight year period.
